The Groundskeeper's Hut is a handmade leather art bag, inspired by a certain beloved groundskeeper's little stone hut at the edge of the forest. This one of a kind piece is my own interpretation of a place that has always felt warm, wild and a little bit magical.
This is not just an art piece, it is wearable art. Not just something to be displayed on a shelf, you can use the removeable adjustable strap, making it a bold and magical statement.
With the exception of the lighting and hardware, every visible element is made from leather.
Each piece has been individually hand cut, tooled, shaped, dyed, painted and assembled by me. From the individual stones and weathered wooden details on the roof, chimney, windows, door and pumpkins.
Countless hours have gone into creating this piece entirely by hand.
The hut also comes to life with two working light features.
Inside the fireplace is a warm red light that gives the appearance of a glowing fire. A concealed access panel underneath the piece allows the light to be switched on and off, and provides access to the batteries to be changed as well.
Above the fireplace is a second working light with a little extra magic. The light is turned on and off using its accompanying miniature wand that is made into a keychain. The fixture itself has a removeable panel, allowing access for battery replacement.
Although created as wearable leather art, The Groundskeeper's Hut is also a functional bag. It includes an adjustable, removeable strap so it can be carried comfortably.
A custom drop in liner will also be included. The liner creates a secure compartment for your belongings while protecting the handcrafted interior of the hut from wear or damage.
It can be removed when the piece is being displayed, allowing the original leatherwork inside to be shown.
Because of the sculptural nature of this piece and the extraordinary amount of handwork involved, it is intended to be both carried and collected. A functional bag, display piece and art.
